St Hugh’s Fellows, students and guests attended a formal dinner on Friday 20 January to celebrate the life and works of Rabbie Burns, the Bard of Ayrshire, in traditional style. The Principal, Lady Elish Angiolini welcomed guests and led The Selkirk Grace, a Scots-language prayer traditionally recited at a Burns supper; which was followed by the address to the haggis. St Hugh’s alumna, Sophie Harkins (History, 2014) provided the Toast to the Immortal Memory of Robert Burns after which guests were treated to a musical interlude performed by our talented students, Sandy MacDonald, Oscar Fraser Turner, Jessica Clucas, Taro Kobayashi, Vivek Ramen and Jieun Lee. Guests joined together for a rendition of Auld Lang Syne before being piped out of the Dining Hall through the college gardens to the Wordsworth Tea Room for a rousing Ceilidh.
