St Hugh’s was very pleased to welcome the Mulberry Bush School to the College this week for its ‘Oxfordshire Women of the Year’ lunch.
Mulberry Bush provides “an integrated programme of therapeutic residential care and education for emotionally troubled and vulnerable primary age children.”
Children attend the school for 38 weeks a year, during which time the school is home “to youngsters from across the UK, whose early experience of life has been one of abuse and neglect.”
The charity receives no central government funding and only receives enough financial support from local authorities to cover basic costs of care and education. It therefore fundraises to provide for “capital development, the up-keep of our buildings, extension of therapeutic care, or any of the extra-curricular activities which other children take for granted and which our children so desperately need.”
The Oxfordshire Women of the Year lunch is held in a different college each year, and is one of the school’s most successful fundraising events.
