Baroness Josephine (Jo) Valentine is a life peer and distinguished leader in business, public policy and civic regeneration. She is an Honorary Fellow of St Hugh’s College where she read Mathematics and Philosophy (1978).
Baroness Valentine has held senior roles across the public, private and voluntary sectors. She served as Chief Executive of London First from 2003 to 2016, playing a significant role in initiatives such as Crossrail, Teach First, the Olympics and the promotion of London’s long-term economic development. Earlier in her career she worked in corporate finance at Barings Bank and The BOC Group, and later founded public-private partnerships focused on urban regeneration.
Appointed a Life Peer in 2005, Baroness Valentine sits as a Crossbench member of the House of Lords, contributing to debates on infrastructure, economic growth and social policy. She has held numerous non-executive and advisory roles, including chairing Heathrow Southern Railway Limited. She is also a member of The Industry and Regulators Committee – a Lords Select Committee appointed to consider matters relating to industry, including government policies to promote industrial growth, skills and competitiveness, and to scrutinise the work of UK regulators.
