Following a decision made by the Governing Body on Thursday 10 February, St Hugh’s College has committed to pay all of its staff at least the Oxford Living Wage – a rate of pay that promotes liveable earnings for all workers and recognises the higher cost of living in Oxford. The change will come into effect on 1 April 2022.
Introduced by Oxford City Council, the OLW is set annually at 95% of the London Living Wage and linked to the Living Wage Foundation’s Real Living Wage.
St Hugh’s Principal, Dame Elish Angiolini said, ‘I am delighted that Governing Body has agreed to pay our staff the Oxford Living Wage. Many of our lowest-paid employees worked tirelessly throughout lockdown to keep the College running and we felt it was important to recognise the contribution of all of our staff by ensuring that everyone is paid at least the Oxford Living Wage’.
The College will be approaching the City Council to accredit as an Oxford Living Wage Employer, to show our support for this important initiative.
