St Hugh’s Virtual Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols

Our annual Advent Carol service took place on Sunday 29 November, with around 300 people from all parts of the St Hugh’s community joining us virtually on Facebook and YouTube.

This annual festive service featured readings from alumni, current students, academics, and staff, and wonderful seasonal music including familiar carols which everyone sang together. Prior to the service, members of the St Hugh’s Chapel choir, who were unable to meet in person, submitted vocals individually and also took part in two recordings by Zoom from their rooms in College.

We hope that students, alumni, and others will continue to view the service during Advent which is in place at the usual Facebook and YouTube links in perpetuity. To view the service on YouTube please click here. To view the service on Facebook please click here.

In normal circumstances, we would support a charity and take up a collection at the end of the Advent service. If you would like to donate to the Chapel’s fundraising page to support the Oxford Food Bank, which is especially in great demand during the pandemic, please click here.

As social distancing continues to affect our lives as a community, St Hugh’s College Chapel will remain a steadfast virtual place of welfare support, music, learning, and prayer for all members of College, their guests, and the public.
