Congratulations to St Hugh’s Honorary Fellow and past Principal, Lady Elish Angiolini, who has been nominated for an Honorary Degree by The Chancellor of the University of Oxford, Lord William Hague of Richmond in recognition of her outstanding services to the administration of justice. Lady Elish will receive the Honorary degree at The Chancellor’s Inaugural Degree ceremony which will take place in the Sheldonian Theatre, Oxford on Tuesday 24 February 2026.
It is a longstanding tradition that the new Chancellor of the University of Oxford is invited to propose candidates for honorary degrees at a special ceremony to mark the start of their
Chancellorship.
Commenting on her nomination Lady Elish said, ‘I am very honoured to have been nominated for an Honorary Degree by The Chancellor in recognition of my justice work. My interest in law developed when I was a teenager and I learned how law could be used to mitigate the worst aspects of poverty. I am grateful to have had such a fulfilling career ever since.’
